Most Popular Posts: April 2007

According to SlimStat, the top five most-viewed posts here during April were:

While not a blog post, but an old photo gallery, my Greathouse Butterfly Farm photos were also very popular. I should post more here. I did better at work last month. Maybe it’s cyclical. Traffic here was a little busier than it has been in the past though.

A random observation

In the past year I have run into more people in Gainesville with ties to Vero Beach or Indian River County than I believe I did in the previous 17.

It’s not that random an observation though. It was prompted by it happening again last night.

My first YouTube video

YouTube’s compression really did a number on the video quality, which is a lot better in the original. Maybe I’ll post a Flash or QuickTime version somewhere else soon. The video was made at my friend and colleague Lauren’s housewarming party. She is dancing with Juan, another colleague.

More on TV

Someone* IM’d: “I didn’t know you watched business shows; you’re so well-rounded :)”

The comment above was made in response to a comment I made about a fund I have in my retirement portfolio being picked as a good fund to have this year on one of my favorite TV shows, Cashin’ In on the Fox News Channel, which airs Saturday mornings as part of The Cost of Freedom block of business shows. If I’m home and inside on Saturday morning, they’re on, at least as background noise for whatever I’m doing. When I win the lottery, I’m calling Jonathan.

Since I previously commented here on what I watch, the IM above prompted me to think and write about other things I watch besides network series.

About the only other thing I still regularly watch on Fox News (especially now that Kiran Chetry has departed for CNN) is Fox News Watch, a great panel-discussion show where they “cover the coverage” of the week’s stories.

I get my evening network news from NBC and Brian Williams. I got interested in them sometime post-Katrina after reading somewhere on the net about their blog, The Daily Nightly, and checking it out.

I watch Good Eats on the Food Network.

I watch This Old House on PBS and This Old House Classics on DIY Network.

In other notes since I last wrote….

SciFi has moved Battlestar Galactica to Sundays at 10 from Friday. It now faces off with Brothers & Sisters, which I now TiVo (and have a couple of unwatched episodes queued).

I somehow got hooked on 24.

Fox put Standoff on hiatus and I read this week (doing my research for this) that it will return this Spring on Friday nights, which usually is a death knell, unfortunately.

That’s all for now.

O’Leno photos posted

IMG_1298.jpgEach January, the Gainesville Cycling Club convenes at O’Leno State Park north of High Springs for our annual “Chilly Chili Picnic.” The weather was fabulously cooperative. My friend Chandler and I traditionally lead a mountain bike ride through the woods and along the Bellamy Road. The river level was low this year so we got to take a group photo standing in the dry riverbed. Some went on road bike rides from the park and others rode out from Gainesville, ate, and rode back.

We had about nine pots of chili. I brought Emeril’s Turkey and White Bean Chili and came home with an empty pot and a lot of praise.

O’Leno has been a special place to me ever since the Summer of 1976 when we happened upon it during the Florida back roads vacation we went on that year. Those have been my favorite woods ever since I first laid eyes on the suspension bridge and the first time this child of the suburbs ever petted a wild, though pretty tame, deer. It was definitely part of the attraction when I got the opportunity to move to Gainesville in 1988.
